Time for Security First Architecture!

Risk Group Founder, Jayshree Pandya Ph.D  discusses  Software Security Risks and “Security First Architecture” with Anantha Bangalore, Chief Technology Officer on Risk Roundup.   Introduction As digital technology fundamentally transforms the innovation cycle, it seems that there’s a disconnect between the demand for innovation in digital technology and the ability to execute the development successfully. The growing demand for digitalization has increased a need for the newest and best software package by not only consumers but each and every entity across nations: its government, industries, organizations and academia. This growing demand is driving software developers to take shortcuts, use outdated code, or not fully test new products in order to get the product to the market or end user quickly. This raises the risk of software that are not sufficiently vetted against security vulnerabilities or system compatibility. In addition, there are older versions of many software that are in use across nations, with its outdated operating systems, which have either already become unsupported by their respective vendors or at some point in the near future would become unsupported. This raises critical security risks as such Security Vulnerabilities will likely go unpatched, and they will often be the first vulnerable spot cyber-criminals will focus on when trying to obtain access to the systems across entities.
